Itinerary

DAY: 1 Darwin to Kakadu

We’ll kick off our 4 Day Kakadu Katherine Litchfield Tour adventure early, departing Darwin at 6:30 AM. As we journey east along the Arnhem Highway, you’ll quickly notice the vast floodplains. After crossing the Adelaide River, we’ll make our way to the Mary River and Corroboree Billabong, renowned for having the highest concentration of saltwater crocodiles in the world.

On a one-hour cruise, your guide will help you spot these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, while also highlighting the diverse birdlife in the area. You’ll have the opportunity to join a wildlife tour of the Mary River wetlands, where you’ll see crocodiles and an abundance of birds up close.

Soon after, we’ll arrive at Kakadu National Park, where we’ll head to Cahill’s Crossing on the East Alligator River for a hearty lunch. Next, we’ll explore Ubirr, famous for its impressive examples of Northern Australian rock art. A short climb will reward you with breath taking views of the Nardab Floodplains, East Alligator River, and Arnhem Land’s escarpment. We’ll spend the night in our exclusive camp located in Jabiru, Kakadu’s “capital city.”

Accommodation: Permanent, powered tents (shared facilities) – 1 night
Included Activities: Corroboree Billabong Cruise & Ubirr Rock
Meals Included: Lunch & Dinner
Special Information:  Drive time: approximately 4 hours (350 km) / Total walking time: around 1.5 hours (including stops for informative talks)

DAY 2:  Kakadu National Park

Today promises an incredible adventure! After breakfast at camp, we’ll pack up and head south through Kakadu National Park to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge). Don your walking boots for a 1 km trek along the mostly dry river through a beautiful paperbark forest that leads to the gorge and its refreshing waterhole. The water here is deep and inviting, perfect for cooling off while you soak in the stunning views of the surrounding pandanis and ancient cliff walls.

After our time at Maguk, we’ll return to our 4WD and make our way to Bukbukluk Lookout, where a short walk through the woodlands awaits. This afternoon, we’ll treat ourselves to another refreshing stop at Ikoymarrwa (Moline Rockhole), a special permit area featuring a smaller but equally impressive waterhole.

Leaving Kakadu behind, we’ll head toward Nitmiluk National Park, home to the majestic Katherine River. As the day winds down, we’ll take in the breath taking sunset views over the river before settling in at our camp.

Afterward, we’ll pass through the town of Katherine on our way to our next destination: Edith Falls. This picturesque spot is perfect for a picnic lunch followed by a refreshing swim. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike to one of the upper pools, or simply relax in the spacious bottom plunge pool.

We’ll then head north along the Stuart Highway, passing through the outback towns of Adelaide River and Pine Creek before arriving at our exclusive camp on the edge of Litchfield National Park.
