The Malaparr Traveller is all about leisure and is suitable for inexperienced canoeists and suitable for families. You will be transferred by boat to the top of the first gorge where you then take to the waters from the second gorge where you can travel further onto gorge three. You can take advantage of the shallow swimming sections to cool off and even find a nice location for a picnic.

Begin with a scenic boat cruise through the first gorge before you take to the waters to explore the second gorge and beyond by canoe.
On this self-guided adventure, you can travel at your own pace, admiring the stunning scenery and local wildlife. Take a picnic to enjoy on the riverbanks and cool off with a swim at one of the many swimming spots along the way. Experienced canoeists will make it to the end of the fourth and fifth gorges. Be sure to check out the lush hanging gardens with an almost rainforest-like atmosphere – a great place to have a break and enjoy some cool shade. Discover the crystal clear rockpools and waterfalls, pandanus trees and grasslands. Paddling back in the late afternoon is a magical time in the gorges where the sunlight starts to change and the sandstone escarpments reveal deep red and orange hues – the ideal way to end a fantastic day of adventure.
• High fitness level is required. Please wear appropriate footwear.
• Portages will vary in difficulty depending on river levels.
• This tour is not suitable for guests with mobility issues.
• Parking is at the visitor center and it is a short 10-15 minutes’ walk to the boat jetty.
• You will be required to carry canoes (18-26Kg) between gorges.
• A moderate level of fitness is required.
• Boarding/Registration is 30 minutes prior to departure at the Nitmiluk Boat Jetty.
We recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, drinking water, snacks, suitable footwear and dry bags.
Due to limited car parking at the boat ramp, we are encouraging guests to park at the visitor center car park and take a short 10-15 minutes’ walk to the boat jetty.
Please allow 30 minutes driving time from the township of Katherine to get to Nitmiluk National Park.
